Mark Benjamin was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica in 2015 at age 57 and is on the Journey to recovery at the time of publication of his first book. His main professional work is in Business and Communication Skills Training and Consulting for Corporate and Public Sector organisations in the UK and internationally.
During his unplanned break from ‘the day job’ due to the debilitating Fatigue often associated with PMR and GCA, Mark discovered the PMRGCAuk Health Unlocked social community forum and started to write occasional humorous Posts there.
He says: “At first, my silly ramblings on The Lighter Side were really an effort to cheer myself up during the long weeks and months of feeling so exhausted with PMR. But to my surprise lots of other forum members joined-in with the playful banter - and it made me realise that people with chronic illnesses like PMR and GCA appreciate some fun and laughter on the long and frustrating Journey. ‘Write Me Funny..’ is intended as an antidote to the informative but often more serious books about PMR and GCA, and it’s a great privilege to be able to help others to smile on a health Journey that can be anything but funny”.
Mark writes as ‘markbenjamin57’on the PMRGCAuk Health Unlocked Community forum, and can be followed and contacted there. He lives in South West England and his interests include Modern Jazz, Art and Design, Motor cars, Communication Psychology - and, of course, Comedy!
